St. Ciaran's Community School in Kells, Co. Meath provides a comprehensive system of post primary education open to all the children of the local community.

Customer requirements

In 2012, St. Ciaran's Community School approached K.T. Communications with the view of upgrading their telephone system and incorporating digital signage to improve communications within the school. Their main requirements were:

• To upgrade their telephone system to provide them with 32 additional IP extensions

• To provide them with 30 additional display phones

• To supply and install a digital signage system

K.T. Comms worked extensively with the Principal, Mr. Francis Lafferty at the consultation stage in order to compile an exact specification of the equipment required to match the requirements of the school.  The equipment that was selected and installed includes the following:

• Onelan digital signage server and subscriber unit

Panasonic NCP1000 system control unit

Panasonic NT321 8-key display phones

The NT321 IP telephone from Panasonic offers the user; 8 programmable buttons, 4 tilt positions, caller ID, call logging, message waiting indicator, conference calling, call transfer and includes second LAN port for connection to PC.

Onelan digital signage

This is a digital signage system which utilises Net-Top-Box technology to display stored and live media.  Through the user of screens placed in reception areas and staff rooms, digital signage has been a proven method to communicate to students, staff and visitors.

The result

The various systems installed by K.T. Communications have not only served their initial purpose for St. Ciaran's Community School but also provide them with a future proof system.  The telephone system installed has the capacity for the number of current users to be increased substantially should the school decide to expand. The administration staff now enjoy less disruptions throughout the day as daily announcements are displayed on the screen and updated throughout the day.  The digital signage display in the staff room allows teachers to be kept up to date with student information (detention, new student details etc.).
